The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (ADOT&PF) has begun a project to reduce congestion, improve traffic flow and enhance safety to and from Anchorage on the Glenn Highway by designing and constructing a new highway interchange at the Glenn Highway and Bragaw Street. This interchange will incorporate the natural rises and falls in the landscape with airspace over the Glenn Highway to create an attractive Bragaw Street overpass—a new Gateway to Anchorage and the community. This project was identified in the latest Anchorage Long Range Transportation Program. It is also consistent with the proposed Highway to Highway concept that connects the Seward and Glenn Highways.
In creating this gateway, ADOT&PF’s project development approach will utilize a process called context sensitive design (or CSD). Through the project, ADOT&PF will actively seek community input in developing an interchange that recognizes community needs and values. The final project will reflect the community’s vision: connecting neighborhoods, providing safe access for motorists and pedestrians, supporting local development, and providing an aesthetically pleasing welcome to Anchorage for travelers along the Glenn Highway.
This web site provides information on the progress of the project and opportunities for you to communicate concerns and comments to the project team. Your input will help make the Bragaw Street / Glenn Highway Interchange an attractive crossroads that better serves the traveling public and the residents of Anchorage.
