Background

Public Involvement

The Glenn Highway: Gambell Street to McCarrey Street Additional Lanes project began with the Major Investment Study (MIS).  The MIS concluded with a Corridor Recommendations Report in 2001 that recommended adding lanes to the Glenn Highway in the bottleneck area near Merrill Field Municipal Airport.  This project builds on the public involvement undertaken for the MIS.  During this design phase, opportunities will be provided for the public to suggest how community values and needs can be incorporated into the project’s design. By asking the community about their priorities, ADOT&PF is able to combine the community’s vision with necessary design and safety considerations in the final project designs.

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is meeting with the public, regulatory agencies, and other interested groups as the project continues to keep them apprised of activities and to get their feedback on the environmental, social, economic and design issues associated with the project.
